You all know that I LOVED Obsession: Darkness Falls, and that I was positively giddy with excitement for the release of the sequel. I was privileged enough to receive an early copy of Redemption as part of Ivory’s Blog Tour, and am happy to report that I went full-on recluse at a family barbeque just to read the awesomeosity (it’s a thing!) that is this novel. Today I’ll share some info on the book, it’s author, as well as my review of the book. PLUS, I have an interview with the illustrious Master Blue who, not gonna lie, gives me a funny feeling Downtown, if you catch my drift. Don’t forget to scroll all the way down to enter to win some AMAZING Darkness Falls prizes, including custom jewelry! Let’s get started!!!
Cause you are my invisible strings
You’re the ties that bind me whole
You’re all that keeps me together
You’re the dark matter of my soul
It’s been six long months since Gabriel left and Noelle’s nightmares are swallowing her whole. In a last ditch attempt to save her sanity, Jax takes her to Cal Henway, the infamous and enigmatic Master of Kink, to see if he can slay her demons. He, in turn, entrusts her care to Master Blue – Dom, loveable rogue and practical joker. Blue knows the only way to silence her demons is to sate them, but will his journey through the darkest parts of her desires save her, or break her beyond all repair?
FROM THE MIND OF MO
OK, first things first. You HAVE read Obsession, right? UGH! You’re killing me, Smalls! There’s always one in the bunch! Go download your copy of Obsession: Darkness Falls, read thoroughly, and report back. Got it??? OK, good…
Moving on…Redemption picks up six months after the Obsession, and we find Noelle broken, grieving, and angry. After realizing that he’s not able to help her on his own, Jax (swoon alert!) takes Noelle to The Manor, a BDSM club of sorts, and training ground for those new to the lifestyle.
With the help of Cal and (the super-hot) Master Blue, Noelle begins to accept her feelings towards Gabriel, and explore her new lifestyle. It’s not an easy journey for her, and while some of her friends don’t necessarily understand her needs, she’s lucky enough to have them as a great support system. The Darkness Falls members, as well as her new friends at The Manor, embrace her and want to see her whole again.
Even so, I can’t imagine how hard it was for Jax to introduce her to a world that led Gabriel down such a dark path. I feel like he was willing to do this for her, help her channel her rage and grief in a way acceptable to her, because he loved her. He helps Noelle learn the RIGHT way to dominate, as opposed to Gabriel’s special brand of manipulation. (Pro Tip: Re-read Obsession after you read Redemption. Sheds a WHOLE new (unflattering) light on Gabriel!)
So where does Noelle end up? That’s for me to know and you to find out! Suffice it to say, she reaches a breaking point, but thankfully, she has people to bring her back from the brink. I think her journey continues far beyond the pages of Redemption, and although we don’t know exactly where she ends up, I trust that she is able to remain true to herself, and she will be taking very good care of her future subs.
All in all, I think Ivory did an amazing job with this follow-up novel. The BDSM scenes were well-written, and felt authentic, without being over the top. While she may have been unable to redeem Gabriel, I think Noelle found her own redemption, and I was glad to be able to take the journey with her.
EXCLUSIVE! MY INTERVIEW WITH MASTER BLUE
Chloe shows me into a beautifully appointed office, and offers me refreshments. I opt for a cup of tea, knowing that I’ll need to keep my wits about me when I’m talking to Master Blue. She takes her leave, and I fidget nervously on the tufted sofa, smoothing my skirt, tucking my hair behind my ear.
Master Blue walks into the room, filling the office with his presence. His pressed white shirt a sharp contrast to his bronzed skin, his blue-black hair makes him look like a sexy Clark Kent. I’m momentarily rendered speechless, but I swallow hard and stand to greet him. As I reach out to shake his hand, I lean in ever-so-slightly, trying to smell him without him catching on. WHAT?!?!? Hey, everyone has their “thing”, man!
Thanks so much for agreeing to speak with me, Blue. Or should I call you Master? **looks down demurely**
You can call me anything you like, cupcake. And look me in the eye. We haven’t written a contract. Yet. *winks* (CUPCAKE?!?!?! Dear Lord, please let me make it through this interview without climbing into this man’s lap!)
You’ve really piqued the interest of many readers and they had some interesting questions for you. Are you ready to get started?
Go for it. I’m wearing my big man pants.
First, some basics. Tifinie is dying to know; What IS your real name? Where do you hail from?
Blue is my real name. It might not be the one I was born with, but it was given to me by the only people I’ve ever really loved. If you want to know my birth name, once upon a time I was called Sebastien. As for where I’m from…I don’t talk about my childhood. Ever. (Now I’m intrigued!)
Mich asked how old you were when you first realized that this was the lifestyle for you? Did you always have Dom tendencies?
I think so…I just didn’t always know that’s what they were. It’s not an easy acceptance. For a long time you worry that there’s something really wrong with you. I knew this was my lifestyle when Cal found me.
Did someone train you?
Cal did. I’d been introduced to the lifestyle by an old fling…he found me in one of his clubs and took me under his wing.
Talk to me about the actual experience you have with clients. What do you get out of it?
Being a service Dom is a lot different to doing it for pleasure. It’s very much catered to the needs of the client. Not all of their kinks push my buttons, but if they do that’s cool. In every case there’s a rush though. It’s hard to explain. It’s a heady mix of power rush, endorphins and sexual gratification. If I could bottle it, I’d make a fortune! (I’d buy it for sure!)
Cloey had a burning question…what is your favorite prop to use on a submissive?
*leans forward and smiles* Tell Cloey that my favourite thing to use on a sub is my bare naked skin…that smack of flesh on flesh…mmm *winks* (I squirm in my seat)
Sooooo….what’s your ideal relationship with a woman like? Are you fully Dominant with women you date? (*placing the end of the pen in my mouth*)
Depends on the woman. It’s really not that clear cut. There’d have to be some power exchange there…even if it was continuing to work while having a ‘nilla relationship at home. As far as I’m concerned it comes down to love. You find a woman you love and you make your kinks work around it. I’m not sure I could go with a TPE (Total Power Exchange). I like my women with a little fire in them. (There’s definitely hope for me, then! *sits up a little bit straighter*)
What was your impression of Noelle when she first came to The Manor? You two seemed to have an immediate bond. Is that normal for people you work with?
When I first saw her I thought she was like a bird…small, beautiful, fragile, trembling and poised for flight. We did hit it off straight away though. She’s got some steel in her that one. Steel recognises steel. *fierce grin*. It’s not normal though. I’ve never bonded with anyone like I have with her. The thing with being a Dom is that we’re all as different as shades of the rainbow. We all have different kinks. It’s rare to find someone you connect with on so many levels.
Let’s pick up for a minute where Redemption left off. What’s your relationship with Noelle like? Does Red still come to The Manor?
We’re great friends. I really miss fucking her though. Oh! Am I allowed to say that? Is this live? Sorry. *sheepish*. We get on great. She comes to The Manor all the time, stays here once or twice a week. She’s still in training and I think she’s going to come onto the pay roll so she’ll be around a lot.
How about the future? Do you think readers will see more of Master Blue? (Please say yes, please say yes!)
I certainly hope so. I’m not above tanning Ivory’s hide if she neglects me…
Well, I guess that’s all of my questions, Blue…Oh, just one more…I’d love to know a little bit about your bathtub ritual….
My room at 5pm, cupcake. You can see it for yourself… *winks* (Now I’m DEFINITELY squirming in my seat!)
Thanks again for meeting with me, it’s truly been…enlightening….I hope we can chat again in the future. **winks**
You’re welcome. Thanks for inviting me. Any time.
…do you have a card??
*holds card above head* come and get it…
I step out into the mid-morning sunshine and hail a cab. I’m anxious to see the sights in London. But first, I direct the cabbie to the Agent Provocateur store on Broadwick Street in Soho. Looks like I’ll need to do a little bit of shopping before my 5 o’clock “appointment”!
